Serial number tracking

Fixmo tracks individual units by serial number through six states: in stock, sold, used in repair, completed repair, returned and defective. Each serial belongs to a branch, can carry a warranty expiry date, and moves state automatically as it is sold, fitted or returned.

A quantity says how many you have. A serial says which one you sold, which is the question a warranty claim asks.

What it does

A quantity tells you how many you have. A serial tells you which one you sold, which matters the day it comes back.

Serial numbers are turned on per item. A screen protector does not need them. A battery or a board usually does.

The state moves on its own. Selling a unit marks it sold. Fitting it to a repair marks it used, then completed when the job finishes. A refund puts it back, or marks it damaged or defective, depending on what you chose.

Each serial sits in a branch, so a unit in one shop is not offered by another. Warranty expiry is stored on the unit, so a claim two years later can be checked against the actual item rather than a guess about when it was bought.

Serials are searchable, which is what makes a warranty claim a lookup instead of an argument.

Questions

What happens to a serial when the customer returns the item?

You choose. Restock puts it back as in stock. Damaged or defective takes it off the shelf and records why.

Can I look up who bought a specific unit?

Yes. The serial links to the sale line, which links to the customer, so a warranty claim resolves to the actual transaction.

Can one serial be used on more than one repair line?

A serial attaches to a single part usage. A repair that needs several serialised units of the same part uses a line per unit.

Is the warranty date worked out for me?

Yes, from the warranty term on the item, and it is stored on the unit so later changes to the term do not rewrite it.
