On the bench and at the counter

Services and labour

A service is a priced piece of labour, kept in a catalogue. Screen fitting, data recovery, a diagnostic fee. Services go on repairs, sell at the till, and appear as lines on invoices and quotations, and their revenue is tracked apart from parts.

Labour priced once and reused. The usage setting is what stops a diagnostic fee appearing in the cart.

What it does

Most repair income is labour, and most shops price it from memory. That is how the same screen fitting costs two different amounts in the same week.

A service in the catalogue has a name, a price and a type. Adding it to a job takes one click and the price is the one you decided, not the one someone remembered.

Each service says where it can be used: on repairs only, at the till only, or both. A diagnostic fee that should never appear in the cart simply cannot.

Because services are separate from parts, reports can tell you how much of a month was labour.

Questions

Can I charge a different price for the same service on one job?

Yes. The catalogue price is the starting point. Changing it on a line is recorded in the price override log.

Do services affect stock?

No. A service has no stock level. Parts fitted alongside it do.

Can I sell a service without a repair?

Yes, if the service is set to allow till use. Set it to repair only if it should never appear in the cart.
