Changing a role

Changes are staged until you press Save, so you can switch several things at once and review them before anything happens.

  1. Go to Settings, then Roles & Permissions.
  2. Stay on the Roles tab and pick Manager, Technician or Cashier on the left.
  3. Find the permission. Type into the search box at the top to look across all 176, or open a section and use the filter inside it.
  4. Switch the permission on or off. If the change is not allowed, Fixmo tells you why instead of doing it.
  5. Check the count at the bottom of the screen, which shows how many unsaved changes you have.
  6. Press Save. Press Discard instead if you change your mind.

There are two search boxes for a reason. The one at the top searches everything and opens whichever sections contain a match. The one inside a section filters just that section, which helps in the long ones like Finance and Inventory. Both search the name, the description and the internal key, so if you copied a key out of the change log you can paste it straight in.

When the change takes effect

Immediately. The person does not need to log out and back in. Their very next action uses the new setting, and if you have removed access to a page they are currently on, they are moved away from it. If two people happen to save at the same moment, one of them gets a short 'try again in a moment' rather than a change that half applies — permission saves are deliberately taken one at a time so two people cannot build a combination between them that Fixmo would refuse from either one alone.

Tip

Changing a role affects everyone with that role. If you only mean to change one person, use the People tab instead.

Why the Owner row is greyed out

The owner is shown so you can see what full access looks like, but cannot be edited. Weakening the owner is how a shop would lock itself out of its own account, so Fixmo does not allow it, even for the owner themselves.
