Changing one person

Use this when a policy is right for the role but wrong for one individual, such as a senior technician who should see the whole branch's jobs.

  1. Go to Settings, then Roles & Permissions.
  2. Switch to the People tab.
  3. Pick the person from the list on the left. There is a search box if the team is long.
  4. Change the permissions you want to differ from their role.
  5. Press Save.

Inherited and Override

Every row on the People tab tells you where its setting comes from. 'inherited' means it follows the role, so if you later change the role, this person changes with it. 'Override' means you have set it for this person specifically, and the role no longer affects it. Each override has a small undo arrow that puts it back to the role's setting.

Tip

Prefer changing the role when the rule applies to the job, and a person only when it genuinely applies to that individual. Fewer overrides means fewer surprises later.

What happens if that person's role changes

Their overrides are cleared and they start on the new role's settings. This is deliberate. An override was a decision made against their old role, and carrying it across would produce a set nobody chose, where a permission you switched off because a technician did not need it silently stays off for the manager they have just become. Fixmo tells you how many overrides were cleared, and records it in the change log.

Warning

If you promote someone who had exceptions, check their permissions afterwards. They are back on the standard settings for their new role.
