What Roles and Permissions does

Every feature in Fixmo has a permission behind it, and this page is where you decide who holds it. You can work at two levels: change a whole role, so every cashier is affected, or change one person and leave everyone else on the role's settings. Both live under Settings, Roles & Permissions.

The four roles

Fixmo has four roles. The owner is fixed and always has everything. The other three are the ones you can change.

  • Owner (Admin): the shop account. Always has every permission, and cannot be edited.
  • Manager: runs a branch day to day. Sees their branch's figures and manages the staff in it.
  • Technician: works on repairs. Sees the jobs assigned to them, and the parts and stock they need.
  • Cashier: serves customers at the counter. Takes sales, raises invoices, handles the till.

Where the starting settings come from

Every shop starts on the same defaults, and those defaults are exactly what Fixmo did before this page existed. Nothing about your setup changed when the feature arrived. When you change something, Fixmo stores only the difference, which is why Reset to default is exact rather than approximate: it removes your change rather than trying to rebuild the original.

Tip

If you are not sure what you have changed, look for the 'changed' count on each section heading. A section with no badge is untouched.

Who can open the page

Only the shop owner. Managers cannot open it even though they can manage staff in other ways. This is on purpose: the ability to change permissions is the one permission that must never be handed out, because anyone holding it could grant themselves everything else.

Warning

If you are a Manager and cannot find Roles & Permissions in Settings, that is expected. Ask the shop owner.

Frequently asked questions

Only the shop owner (the Admin account). This is deliberately not something that can be handed to anyone else, because whoever could change permissions could give themselves every other permission. Managers, Technicians and Cashiers do not see the Roles & Permissions page at all.

No. Every shop starts on the same settings it already had, so nothing changes until you change it. The page shows you what your team can currently do, and any change you make takes effect on that person's next action, without them logging out and back in.

A role permission applies to everyone with that role, so changing it for Cashier changes it for every cashier. A person permission applies to one individual and overrides their role. Use the Roles tab for a policy that should apply to everyone in a job, and the People tab for an exception, such as one senior technician who should also see the whole branch's jobs.

No. The owner's permissions cannot be edited, by anyone, including the owner. The owner's row is shown on the page so you can see what full access looks like, but it is locked. This is what stops a shop from accidentally locking itself out of its own account.

176, grouped into 18 sections such as Repairs, Sales & POS, Invoicing, Inventory and Finance. Because that is a lot to scroll, there is a search box across all of them and a second filter inside any section with more than six.
