Own, Branch or All: Controlling What Staff Can See

What data scope is
A permission answers 'can this person delete a repair?'. Data scope answers 'which repairs?'. The two are separate on purpose. A technician can be allowed to edit a repair while only being able to reach their own, and widening what they see does not change what they may do to it.
The three settings
You will find the scope selector at the top of a module's section, above its permissions.
- Own: only records this person created or was assigned. A technician's own jobs, a cashier's own sales.
- Branch: everything at the branch they belong to.
- All: every branch in the shop.
Note
How scope is set out of the box
Technicians see their own repairs and the customers on them. Cashiers see their own sales and refunds, and their branch's repairs and documents. Managers see their branch. The owner sees everything. Inventory is the one exception: the product catalogue is shop-wide for everybody, because a product belongs to the shop rather than to a branch. Only the quantities are per branch.
Why a report can refuse to turn on
A report shows totals across many records, so it can leak exactly what a narrow scope is hiding. If you try to give someone the Repairs report while their Repairs scope is set to Own, Fixmo refuses and explains: the report would total every job in the branch, which is more than they are allowed to see. Widen the scope first, or leave the report off.
Warning
One thing scope never does
Scope never reaches outside your shop. 'All' means every branch of your shop and nothing else. There is no setting, and no combination of settings, that lets one shop see another's data.
